At Rosehill Infant and Nursery School we provide a broad and balanced curriculum which reflects the society in which we live. In Nursery and Reception the statutory curriculum for the Foundation Stage is followed. This is built on and developed in Year 1.
Year 1 and Year 2 cover Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum. In Key Stage 1 we follow the Draft National Primary Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy .
Our curriculum is organised with a topic based approach, and wherever possible cross curricular links are made to enable the children to make meaningful links in their learning. Children are encouraged to learn in an active way by observing, questioning, investigating and drawing conclusions. We aim for all the children to become independent learners who are well-motivated and enjoy learning. The children have pride in their achievements and respect for the multi-cultural society in which we live.
We consider language development to be the key to your child’s education. Good literacy skills enable the children to become independent and confident learners. Many languages are represented in our school and many of our children are multi-lingual. We encourage the use of home languages as children become familiar with English.
Staff plan, review and evaluate the curriculum continually to ensure we are meeting national requirements and the needs of our children. Staff work in year group teams to plan work and to monitor children’s progress. At the beginning of each half term, you will receive a summary of the work your child will be covering and details of how you can support their learning.
