St James Junior School

In Science, we cover many areas across the junior phase.
Year 3s learn about light and shadows, properties and characteristics of materials as well as plants.
Year 4s focus on electricity and circuits, the human body and chemical changes, amongst other areas.
In Year 5, children learn about physical states (solid, liquids and gases), parts of a flower and investigation techniques and key words.
Although Year 6 children learn about reversible and irreversible changes and inter-adaptation and food webs (habitats), they also revise other areas too.

All year groups focus on a key scientist or inventor as well as carry out investigations related to the topic they are studying. This is planned using a method, carried out ensuring a fair test with results observed and recorded then a conclusion is drawn to summarise the results and refer back to the prediction. An evaluation of the investigation and overall experiment is done - could anything be changed for better, more accurate results?
